Good for timber, reliable delivery

I ordered a fair amount of treated timber for a decking project, specifically some 4x2 joists and decking boards. The online ordering process was straightforward enough, though finding the exact timber lengths I needed took a minute. Delivery was quoted as 3-5 working days, and it actually arrived on the fourth day, which was good. The delivery driver was helpful, placing the timber neatly at the side of my driveway. Quality of the wood was consistent, no major warps or anything that wasn't usable. I had a quick question about their return policy for any leftover materials, and customer support answered my email within a few hours. Overall, a solid experience for a medium-sized project.

Quick pickup, good product

Needed some plasterboard fast. Ordered online, picked it up same day. Staff at the branch were quick. Product was good. No issues.

Got my new door handles

So, I finally got around to replacing some old door handles in my house. I just went on Jewson's site and looked through their internal door handles section. Found a pack that looked nice and ordered them. They got here pretty quick, like in three days. They were just as pictured and went on without a hitch. I'd definitely use them again if I need more building bits.

Decent prices, good value

I was looking for some aggregates and cement for a small patio base and checked Jewson. They had a decent price on the bulk bag of sand and the cement bags. I signed up for their newsletter and got a small first-time buyer discount code, which helped with the overall cost. Felt like I got good value for what I paid, especially compared to some local spots. Worth checking for DIY stuff.

What's the deal with returns for stuff I don't use, like if I over-order on paving slabs?

T Troy Walsh 1 month ago
I returned some unused roof tiles once, it was pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have your receipt and it's within their return window, I think it's a month or so.

You can return surplus materials, but it's always best to check their full return policy online or ask in-store. I think it needs to be in good condition and with proof of purchase.

Thinking of picking up some insulation rolls. Does Jewson do those bulk buy discounts for DIY folk, or is that just for trade accounts?

G Greg 1 month ago
Yeah, they do! I got a good deal on some plasterboard last month, didn't have a trade account or anything. Just look for the multi-buy options on bigger quantities.

I think sometimes it's an automatic discount if you add enough to your basket, or they have specific landscaping and timber multi-buys advertised. Trade accounts definitely get better pricing overall though.

Hey, I need a bunch of cement and sand. How much does delivery usually cost for really heavy stuff like that?

T Tom R. 1 month ago
It really depends on how much you order and where you are. I think for big orders, they often do free delivery. Best to just put it in your basket and check the delivery cost before you commit.

Yeah, I've had free delivery on big timber orders before, but if it's just a few bags of cement, it might have a charge. Worth asking them or checking the website's delivery info.

Is Jewson actually open to normal people or is it just for builders with trade accounts?

J Jared Q. 1 month ago
Nah, anyone can go in. I pop in all the time for DIY bits. Just walk in like any other shop.

Yep, totally open to the public. You don't need a trade account to buy stuff, though trade account holders do get better prices on most things.

Are Jewson's tools generally any good, or should I stick to buying those from somewhere else like Screwfix?

T Todd Lindqvist 4 weeks ago
I've bought some hand tools from Jewson and they're decent enough for DIY. For power tools, sometimes they have good brands on offer. Depends what you need it for really.

Their own brand stuff is usually okay for occasional use. For heavy-duty trade work, a lot of pros prefer specific tool shops. But Jewson does carry some good brands too, especially during seasonal sales.
